This Week in NJ

**Don't forget to set your clocks back an hour on Sunday, 11/03!**

If you are in the city on Thursday night and looking for a Veg-Friendly brew-ha-ha, Vegan Drinks is here to save the day! They will be hosting a Halloween version of their event at Solas Bar. They will be fundraising for Voters For Animal Rights - an organization that helps elect candidates who support animal protection, lobbies for laws to stop animal cruelty, and holds elected officials accountable to humane voters. VFAR will receive a portion of all drink sales and 100% of all raffle proceeds. Raffle prizes include gifts from Marty's V Burger, Healthy Vege, and Brooklyn Food & Beverage.

Anonymous for the Voiceless's Cube of Truth is a peaceful static demonstration akin to an art performance. AV will be booked and busy this coming weekend with International Cube Weekend (details below) but they do have one demonstration Wednesday in Brooklyn. These demonstrations operate in a structured manner that triggers curiosity and interest from the public; they attempt to lead bystanders to a vegan conclusion through a combination of local standard-practice animal exploitation footage and conversations with a value-based sales approach. Masks, signs, and outreach literature are provided. Black upper clothing appropriate for the weather is essential, and please bring a fully charged laptop or tablet if you have one. Interested in volunteering for Brooklyn? Join this Facebook group, and for the other demonstrations and FB groups, see below!

On Saturday, please keep Animals First on the Second in mind. This is not an event to attend; rather a monthly day of reflection and remembrance. Each day, millions of farm animals are starved on their way to slaughter. On the second day of every month, fasting is encouraged in protest of the treatment of these sentient beings. Join us as we amplify the voices of the billions of farmed animals suffering around the world. You can find more information about this campaign here.

Philadelphia's vegan food scene is becoming legendary. This Friday, come celebrate great food and the people behind it at the Philly Vegan Awards! If you're veg-curious or just enjoy tasty food and fun awards, this is the event for you!

On Saturday, a local grassroots group of caring animal rights activists will be protesting to stop SeaQuest from opening a new Aquarium planned for Fall of this year at the Woodbridge Mall Center in Woodbridge. Contact Denise Morgan at (732)525-9536 or at wellnessfrommorgan@gmail.com.

Join NJVeg on Sunday for an enjoyable afternoon outing. They will first meet at 1pm at Duke Farms for a pleasant walk through the tranquil landscape After working up an appetite, head on over to vegan-friendly Turf, Surf, & Earth restaurant for an early dinner at 4pm. Join for one or both activities! For weather announcements, keep an eye on their event page.

The Black Theory will host a Soul Vegan Cooking Class on Sunday in NYC. In this workshop, you will learn how to make a 30 minute meal using simple ingredients and spices. You will learn when to add spices to a dish to optimize flavor and also the health benefits of certain spices and herbs! There will also be making a nacho cheese sauce from familiar veggies as well as a homemade health supportive sour cream. This is a hands on and informative workshop. First 20 minutes will be a food demo, then we will make the bread and share the food together! We will assemble everything into a delectable and healthy Chili Cheese Nacho Dish! Tickets can be purchased here.

Finally, the Jersey Shore chapter of Food Not Bombs will be feeding those in need at the Asbury Park Train Station between 3:00 and 4:00. Vegan in NJ events scheduled (*must be a member of the Facebook group to view private events):

If you are hosting an event or know of an event happening that you do not see on our events page, please send an email to cherise@veganinnj.com and I'll add it to the page ASAP and include it in my weekly breakdown.

We have started a Patreon page and we would love it if you could donate any amount you could. We will be working on setting up the tiers with more as time goes on, but for right now, you will get access to our feed, where we will be working through ideas and events we plan to host in the future, early blog posts, discount codes for events, and random merch an whatever we've got that we can send you! This will be a great place for you to have your voice heard about how we can make NJ the most vegan friendly place it can be. Proceeds from our Patreon will be going to maintain the website, brand, and afford us to be able to hire on more awesome vegans to help us on our journey to make NJ a vegan wonderland!
