This Week in NJ

Vegan in NJ has started a Patreon page and we would love it if you could donate any amount you could. We will be working on setting up tiers as time goes on, but for right now, you will just get access to our feed, where we will be working through ideas and events we plan to host in the future. This will be a great place for you to have your voice heard about how we can make NJ the most vegan friendly place it can be!

If you are hosting an event or know of an event happening that you do not see on our events page, please send an email to cherise@veganinnj.com and I'll add it to the page ASAP and include it in my weekly breakdown.

Vegan in NJ is raising money through Crowdrise for Skylands Animal Sanctuary. You are also able to donate in person at the February 17 NJ VegFest vegan pop up in Asbury Park. We will have a table, where we will be signing people up for the 5k at the Atlantic City Vegan Food Festival in July (the reason for the fundraiser!) and hoping people join the Vegan in NJ team! We also now have some shirts available with our official design (thanks Lisette!) available on Teespring!

Love is in the air this week and yeah, we mean because Valentine's Day is on the 14th, but also have you SEEN the Valentine's Day menus? DAMN. So many places have specials going on and require reservations, so get them reservations in ASAP! Leaf in Haddonfield has some specials for the day, including this drool worthy one. Saint Benjamin Brewing Company in Philly has a vegan menu going on that day and on time slot is already SOLD OUT, so get that reservation in! Ladybird in NYC has a SIX COURSE menu just waiting to be annihilated. Other places like Mundo Vegan in Montclair, Heart Beet Kitchen in Westmont, and many more places have menus as well!

For whatever reason, someone in Hammonton thought it would be a great idea to host a squirrel hunting contest. You read that right... as in, during the season when squirrels typically are pregnant and/or giving birth, someone decided it would be a fun idea if they killed a bunch of them and make it a family event. Children are killing squirrels here. A protest has been organized on Saturday, at 6:30am. The description of the event includes many talking points and more information on who to email or call about this inhumane event. Please call or email, even if you cannot attend this protest! It is absolutely ridiculous that we are teaching our children how little lives matter. These squirrels are sentient beings with family and loved ones that will be shot down by children.

NJveg is hosting a meetup at Cafe NUNE in Dunellen on Saturday as well. Cafe NUNE is an all vegetarian spot with many vegan options that include bowls (oats, salad, smoothies, etc), toast, juice, smoothies, and more!

On Sunday. NJ VegFest is hosting their first vegan pop up of 2019! It will be at Convention Hall in Asbury Park from 11-5 (unless you got your VIP pass, then it's 10-5). A vegan cookbook swap will be held there, hosted by New Jersey Vegan, as well as a Vegan in NJ meetup at 2pm upstairs. Don't forget we will be there as a vendor for Skylands Animal Sanctuary! Look for the Skylands banner and we will be there, selling shirts and stickers, eating empanadas, and raising money for Skylands Animal Sanctuary by way of our running team for the Atlantic City Vegan Food Festival 5k.

Every third Sunday of the month, the New Brunswick chapter of Chilis on Wheels feeds those in need. They meet at French Street Park around 10am. Please contact newbrunswick@chilisonwheels.org for volunteer opportunities and location, as it may change.

Every Sunday, the Jersey Shore chapter of Food Not Bombs will be feeding those in need at the Asbury Park Train Station between 3:00 and 4:00. If you want to donate something, contact them via their Facebook page or by emailing them at jerseyshorefoodnotbombs@yahoo.com. The Jersey City chapter meets at the Journal Square plaza at noon every Sunday. For donations, contact them via their Facebook page or at foodnotbombsjc@gmail.com.

Vegan in NJ events scheduled (must be a member of the Facebook group to view private events):

Thank you to those who came here via the Try Vegan email blast! If you have no idea what I'm talking about, you can learn more about the Try Vegan empire via their meal delivery (use that link for a free meal!), their food truck, or their clothing line! They also now have an app in the App Store or on Google Play!
